Kenya to Host Network of Africa Data Protection Authorities Summit

Nairobi — Kenya has been voted to host the next Network of Africa Data Protection Authorities (NADPA) general assembly slotted for next year in a meeting held in Burkina Faso.

The country has also been elected to the position of vice chair, alongside Niger and Angola.

The trio is expected to be at the helm of the NADPA, a conglomerate of several African counterfeit authorities, for a period of three years.

"Kenya hosting NADPA generally assembly is so significant. We are excited to take up this new role," said the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) Commissioner Immaculate Kassait.

While briefing the media stakeholders about the country hosting the next NADPA annual general assembly, Kassait observed that the office of the data protection commissioner has received a total of 2,675 complaints regarding data infringement, including 857 admitted complaints.

The ODPC further indicated that the country has been accredited to join the Global Privacy Assembly.

The Global International Assembly is an international conference of data protection and privacy commissioners.

The assembly undertakes leadership at the international level in data protection and privacy.
