Kenya: Canada Dismisses Mutua's Tweet on Employment Opportunities for Kenyans

Nairobi — Canada has dismissed a tweet by Kenya's Foreign Affairs CS Alfred Mutua that there are massive employment opportunities for Kenyans in the north American country.

Canada's Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) department labeled the communication by Mutua, as "disinformation."

"Disinformation is circulating, suggesting that special programs are welcoming Kenyan immigrants. This is false, and the immigration programs referenced do not exist," IRCC tweeted hours after Mutua's call to Kenyans to consider employment opportunities in Canada.

The IRCC urged Kenyans and individuals with intentions of moving to Canada to obtain accurate information by visiting the official IRCC website at http://Canada.ca/immigration.

On Tuesday, Mutua said that the Kenyan government had reached an agreement with Canada to provide job opportunities for Kenyans.

During an official visit to Canada, the Foreign and Diaspora Cabinet Secretary announced the news on his Twitter handle.

Mutua claimed that he had had discussions with his Canadian counterpart regarding work opportunities for Kenyans in the country.

"Currently, Canada has more employment opportunities than available people to work and we agreed that Kenya can help fill that gap. The process for those who wish to go to Canada is simple but requires one to be diligent," Mutua tweeted, "We are in deep negotiations and we will be providing a comprehensive statement within the next few days with guidance and links agreed upon between the Kenyan and the Canadian Government so that Kenyans can apply for migration or job visas."

He further emphasized that Kenya is prepared to bridge the employment gap in Canada.

He, however, warned Kenyans against falling prey to unscrupulous recruitment agencies that take advantage unsuspecting job seekers.

"I will be providing a list of Canadian Government approved consultants (under the College of Immigration and Citizenship approved consultants, "said Mutua.
